DR Jas Chahal

MD MSc MBA

Dr. Chahal is an orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon with expertise in hip, knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery, as well as, cartilage repair. He is currently the Division Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at Women’s College Hospital and team physician for the Toronto FC and University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Dr. Chahal completed his medical degree at the University of Manitoba and his residency in orthopaedic surgery was at the University of Toronto. Following a fellowship in sports medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Chahal returned to Toronto to pursue a career in sports medicine. He has also completed a MSc in Clinical Epidemiology and a MBA at the Rotman School of Management. Dr. Chahal has published over 100 peer reviewed scientific publications and was selected to be a 2022 Travelling Fellow by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr Jason Smith

MD, FRCSC

Dr. Smith completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Princeton University and throughout competed for the Princeton Tigers NCAA division I hockey team. Upon graduation he played professional hockey with the Calgary Flames AHL affiliate, St. John Flames in Saint John, NB. Dr. Smith then went on to complete medical school at the University of Calgary, followed by Orthopaedic residency at McGill University. He then pursued a sports fellowship in Birmingham, Alabama at the American Sports Medicine Institute under supervision of Dr. James Andrews. Here he learned from Dr. Andrews, a world-renowned baseball injury specialist, the intricacy of sports injuries and particularly those in the throwing athlete.

Dr. Jason Smith then headed to Toronto to start his orthopaedic practice in 2007 at the Scarborough Health Network where he specializes in sports injuries pertaining to the shoulder, elbow and knee with special interest in the throwing arm. He’s one of a small handful of Canadian surgeons who performs Tommy John surgery (UCL reconstruction), a common injury sustained in pitchers. Alongside his active practice he works with the Toronto Blue Jays and Team Canada Baseball organizations. Personally Dr. Smith is a sports enthusiast and enjoys skiing, kite surfing and playing hockey. He lives in Toronto with his beautiful wife Dana and their son Lennox.
